Papa San
The Papa San restaurant and bar reflects the fusion of Peruvian vibrancy, Japanese refinement, and New York City's urban grit. With soaring 30-foot ceilings and nearly 100 feet of glass walls, the greenhouse-like interior merges indoor and outdoor elements, echoing the energy of open-air night markets. The journey begins with a neon night market sign on the corner of 34th Street and 10th Avenue in Hudson Yards, highlighting the bar run by the globally recognized Tres Monos team. As a visual anchor, the bar fosters casual interaction and draws passersby into the space’s communal spirit. Inside, exposed ceilings, concrete floors, glass blocks, and colorful plaster form a gritty yet inviting palette softened by lush greenery and bold hues inspired by Peruvian textiles. A rose-colored spiral staircase connects three levels, serving as a striking centerpiece. The ground floor features an open kitchen with a stainless steel izakaya dining bar, blending culinary performance with communal dining, putting center stage Juan Correa and Erik Ramirez's latest culinary adventure, a vibrant blend of Peruvian and Japanese Nikkei cuisine. Above, a mezzanine offers semi-private dining and a retro-inspired listening room with a high-performance sound system. Verticality is emphasized through low-tech lighting and cascading greenery, creating a playful yet grounded aesthetic. Papa San’s design balances spontaneity and precision, inviting exploration and connection. By blending bold materials, tactile details, and cultural storytelling, the space delivers an immersive and dynamic dining experience.
